We’re always looking for new and unique challenges, so you can imagine our excitement when we got the call from legendary makeup artist Adrien Morot. His company Morot FX Studio, had been tasked with creating hyper realistic animatronic babies for Darren Aronofsky’s dark thriller, Mother!. Over the next six weeks, we combined our obsessions to create two infants that could blend seamlessly with shots that featured an actual baby.

These efforts resulted in a pair of remarkably lifelike newborns that could mechanically emulate a baby’s natural movements. The babies appeared to breathe and their limbs displayed a dextrous full range of motion. However, we think that our coolest accomplishment can be found in a scene where Jennifer Lawrence’s character was shown breastfeeding one of the babies. To meet this need, we designed the models to convincingly mimic the act by furrowing their brows and appearing to suckle.
